Bolton Wanderers in the Community Receive £15,000 from Mayor’s Charities of the Year
Bolton Wanderers in the Community were delighted to attend the Mayors Parlour on Friday 9th May to accept funds raised on the charity’s behalf as one of the Mayor of Bolton’s Charities of the Year for 2024.
Mayor Andrew P Morgan JP announced his chosen charities in June 2024 committing to supporting 4 charities over his term as Mayor of Bolton. Four exceptional local charities were supported during his Mayoral term: Bolton Hospice, Bolton FM, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, and the Darren Deady Foundation.
The Mayor has a deep connection with all the selected charities, having been a dedicated Trustee at both Bolton Hospice since 2010 and Bolton FM since 2018, and as a Veteran himself shares a natural affinity with the Darren Deady Foundation. Bakewell Care Homes, his family business, is a proud “Community Partner” of Bolton Wanderers in the Community.
During the cheque presentation at the Mayor’s Parlour Bolton Hospice, BWitC and the Darren Deady Foundation came together to celebrate the commitment of the Mayor and Mayoress to supporting them over their term and the wonderful drive to raising funds to support the charities continue their work across our town.
Ben Lawton, Deputy CEO of Bolton Wanderers in the Community, upon receiving the donation “Everyone at Bolton Wanderers in the Community would like to thank the Mayor and Mayoress for their continued support over their Mayoral term. The support and promotion they have provided this year is invaluable. Support like this helps our charity to continue to provide vital services for residents across Bolton.
“As the official charity of Bolton Wanderers Football Club (BWFC), we live and breathe the ethos of One Club, One Community, One Town and working with the Mayor has helped us bring together our Club, community and town.”
Mayor Andrew P Morgan JP reflected on his term “What Bolton’s good at is putting ourselves down. That’s just the Bolton way. So we decided wanted to spend our year talking about the positives of Bolton. We need to shout louder than the people that are putting us down. We’re coming to the end of our term but when someone comes up to us and says they can feel that tangible difference, that the town is a bit better for what we’ve all done together then I think we’ve done our job.”
“All the charities we picked this year are organisations close to my heart. We could have picked 20 charities, especially after the year we’ve had, but we had to pick our charities at the start of our term and we’re proud to have picked them”
Bolton Wanderers in the Community is dedicated to making a positive impact in Bolton through various services. Being chosen as one of the Mayor’s Charities of the Year has significantly bolstered our efforts and enabled us to continue to expand our reach within our local community.
