BWFC & BWitC Inducted into Show Racism the Red Card Hall of Fame

Bolton Wanderers Chairman Sharon Brittan paid a visit to London earlier this week as the club – in conjunction with Bolton Wanderers in the Community – was inducted into Show Racism the Red Card’s Hall of Fame.

Wanderers received the recognition for their continued commitment to ensuring our football club is place for all, emphasised in April when BWitC joined forces with Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) to welcome 900 youngsters from across Bolton in the largest event of its type involving a Football Club with SRtRC.

First team stars from both Wanderers’ men’s and women’s first team squads, as well as Sharon herself, made appearances at the week-long workshop, engaging in conversations in a fun and interactive way to help tackle racism, stereotypes and hate-crimes.

Founded in January 1996, Show Racism the Red Card held the first Hall of Fame event over two decades ago – created to honour and thank the patrons who have supported their mission and helped establish them as the UK’s leading anti-racism education charity.

As part of the event, Sharon represented Wanderers in the Capital on Monday to receive the recognition with the club inducted alongside Arsenal, Portsmouth and Sunderland at the event.

Sharon Brittan said: “It was a privilege to receive, on behalf of Bolton Wanderers, our induction into Show Racism the Red Card’s Hall of Fame. This acknowledgement reflects the deep commitment to our One Club, One Community, One Town ethos, which is driven with such passion by Bolton Wanderers in the Community.

“Seeing our Charity’s educational programmes equip hundreds of local youngsters with understanding each year, and knowing this positive influence spreads through our town, is immensely rewarding. We believe football has a significant part to play in building a more inclusive society, and we remain wholly dedicated to our collaboration with Show Racism the Red Card, ensuring these vital messages create lasting change.”

Chief Executive of SRtRC, Ged Grebby said:

“As an anti-racism charity we rely on the support of a whole range of organisations and individuals to get our important anti-racism message across.

“The use of Football Club’s as a venue for our educational events has proved incredibly popular over the last 29 years and the Hall of Fame is a way of thanking the clubs who have made an outstanding contribution to our work.

“The individuals in the Hall of Fame have given decades of support to our charity and this is our way of saying thank you for their outstanding contributions to anti-racism education”.

Shaka Hislop, Honorary President of Show Racism the Red Card said:

“As much as we at Show Racism the Red Card have always used football players, their stories and experiences of racism and anti-racism as the foundation of the work we do, none of this would’ve been possible without the support of football clubs.

“Arsenal, Bolton, Portsmouth and Sunderland Football Clubs have gone above and beyond in not only supporting their players’ efforts, but have added in giving of their facilities, reach and impact in a commitment to not only their fan bases, communities but further to young people in every corner of the UK. Their induction into the Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to the impact they’ve made on and off the pitch.”

Our induction to the Hall of Fame came off the back of our 5-day Show Racism the Red Card Educational Event hosted at the Toughsheet Community Stadium back in April, the largest ever event of its kind.

The week saw over 900 children undergo 30 hours of fun and engaging anti-racism workshops, with Q&A panels from Men & Women first team players and club representatives.
