St Bartholomew’s represent BWFC in PL Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament 2025

Bolton Wanderers in the Community were represented by St Bartholomew’s CE Primary at this year’s Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament, held at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC Molineux Stadium on Thursday 12 June.

The National Girls Football Tournament is one of the competition elements of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Primary school children representing 20 Premier League, English Football League and National League clubs from Seasons 2024/25 will take part in a group-stage competition, before knockout matches commence to determine the winners. Fleetwood Town are the current title holders having won the tournament in 2024.

Richard Masters, Chief Executive of the Premier League, said: “Premier League Primary Stars is all about being ambitious, inspiring, connected and fair. Those traits, as well as determination and teamwork, have helped these young children to get here.

“I have no doubt that each of them are an inspiration to other children at their school and in their local community. The tournament is a great opportunity to meet other young people from clubs across the country and create memories that will last a lifetime.”

Thousands of girls representing more than 100 professional football clubs from across England and Wales competed for their chance to represent their respective clubs in this year’s tournament. Participating teams have already won regional heats, earning themselves the chance to play on the pitch at Molineux Stadium, in the official kit of their local professional football club.

The tournament gave those taking part the opportunity to experience what it is like to play football on a Premier League pitch and compete under the watchful eye of Premier League and Women’s Super League match officials.

Joe Conway, Premier League Primary Stars Lead, said: “This was a brilliant opportunity for the team, something I’m sure they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

The tournament encapsulates the PL Primary Stars programme and gives opportunity to young girls who may never get the chance to play at a ground like this again.”

Premier League Primary Stars is the Premier League’s primary school education programme. Funded by the Premier League, through the Premier League Charitable Fund, the programme uses the appeal of football to help children to be active and develop essential life skills.

103 professional football clubs from across the leagues currently run in-classroom Premier League Primary Stars sessions in their local communities.

The free programme also provides teachers with downloadable resources across a range of curriculum subjects at Key Stage 1 (age 5-7) and Key Stage 2 (age 7-11), developed by teachers for teachers to support children to develop skills and values that are crucial to success in later life. More than 70,000 teachers from over 19,000 primary schools have signed up to access these online resources to date.
