Teeing off for a Good Cause – Bolton Comes Together at BWitC’s Charity Golf Day

Friday 8th August, Bolton Wanderers in the Community took to the greens of Bolton Golf Club for our Annual Charity Golf Day. Hosted by BWFC Legend John McGinlay the four ball, Stableford format brought together businesses from across Bolton and beyond for an afternoon of networking, fundraising and of course golf.

Club legends John McGinaly and David Lee were joined by BWFC Head Coach Steven Schumacher, Assistant Head Coach Mark Hughes, Head Physiotherapist Matt Barrass and First Team Physio Steve Blakeley at Bolton Golf Club.

When asked about the importance of the club getting behind events like these Schumacher stated “It’s been a great day, meeting some new people, some new faces that I’ve not met before, people who support the club and people who can raise money for local charities which is brilliant for the work we want to do in the local community.

Its been a great day. The way everyone at the course has looked after us and welcomed us here has been great. The most important thing is raising some money for the local community which is what we’re all about which we’re delighted for.”

BWitC’s Annual Charity Golf Day, a staple event in BWitC’s events calendar, helps to raise vital funds to support our charity’s services across Bolton. With many services free to participants, funding restrictions and increased core costs, events like these secure the future of our services and ensure they stay free for the residents of Bolton that need them.

Richard Slater, BWitC’s Head of Community, reflected on the event ‘We would like to thank all our partners and players for making our Annual Charity Golf Day another success. Not only are these events valuable to bring together local businesses but they support us in raising awareness and vital funds to continue to provide our free services across Bolton.’

When asked about the event and the work of the community John McGinlay stated “First and foremost, events like these raise funds for the community but also the awareness. I think a lot of businesses that turn up to these events, we show them the videos and explain about the projects we have in the community, so it’s good from that point of view because a lot of them probably turn up not realising what the Community do, and they go away knowing a bit more. I think they’re a bit humble going away afterwards as well because they’re seeing the good work [BWitC] put in and that goes a long way.”

Former BWFC Legend, David Lee reflected on the event “I think it’s important to get involved, I think with the publicity that is generated, and you can see what causes there are and what the money goes to. We had a short video in there of some of what the causes are and where the money goes to. And they’re all great causes. So if anybody’s got any type of sponsorship for [BWitC], I’m sure it’d be well received and yeah, come along and enjoy it and give something back to the community.”

We would like to thank TVD Group for their continued support in coordinating the Charity Golf Day year-on-year and supplying prizes for our players. We must also thank all our hole sponsors, Product Care Group for supporting our raffle, Bid Food for providing refreshments for our players and Destinology for supporting our charity through their hole in one competition. Without the support of valued partners like TVD Group, Product Care Group, Bid Food and Destinology, events like these wouldn’t be possible.
